Yep, it's sort of the later case. The calendar used to be open to anonymous posts and got heavily spammed about a year ago, but it isn't a problem anymore. Thanks for reminding us to catch up on the clean up. :-)

Actually, there is still a lot of spam there, starting in October 2010. If you've closed the calendar to guests, that shouldn't have happened. Please clean it up, as much of it is offensive.

Thanks for the reminder. All of that spam starting in October is from the original spam attack about a year ago. I occasionally clear out future months so that people can post their events there, but just haven't kept up with the future cleanup. I'll clear out the rest of Fall 2010 in the next couple days so it doesn't interfere with legitimate posts.
